Ford Motor Company turned the collision repair world upside down when it announced it would be producing its F-150 pickup trucks in an all-aluminum body. Although it wasn’t the first vehicle to be made of aluminum, it was the first to produce them on a major scale being that the F series is the world’s bestselling truck. Now Ford and Lincoln produce multiple trucks and SUVs with all aluminum bodies.

Aluminum presents a challenge to collision repair facilities due to its unfamiliar repairability and specific repair procedures. It requires shops to isolate aluminum and steel body vehicles from one another, have a separate dent extractor and repair method, alongside aluminum welders and specialized rivet attachment methods.

Due to the lack of training & tooling in the repair industry, Ford establish the Ford Collision Repair Network where it would partner with repair facilities to ensure their customer’s Ford and Lincoln vehicles are being repaired safely and correctly. Charlie’s Auto Body is proud to have been the first shop in the county to participate in their program.

Because aluminum repair was so foreign to most repair facilities Charlies Auto Body made a huge initial investment in the proper equipment listed above. Maybe even more importantly Charlies Auto Body employees have taken specific training on repair to the F Series trucks and aluminum Navigators, Expedition, & Explorers.

Along with the specialized aluminum equipment, Ford ensures the rest of the repair facility is up to par when it comes to steel body repairs. They complete this with a yearly inspection and they randomly inspect vehicles that are currently being repaired and ensure you are following all guidelines.
