Only a few years ago features like airbags, seatbelts and anti-lock braking systems were considered the top of the line in car safety. That may as well be ancient history now though, because the computer assisted technology of 2017 is making those old tools look like the bare minimum. Here’s the four best new car safety features Charlie’s Auto Body has seen in the last couple years:

Blind Spot Detection

The blind spot detection technology is simple but highly effective at reducing car accidents. Using radar installed along the vehicle’s rear bumper, drivers are alerted via dashboard light when an object enters their blind spot. This can be a car, a bicyclist, a pedestrian – anything you definitely don’t want to hit! To make it even more secure, an audio warning is made if the driver puts on their turn signal while something is in their blind spot.

Lane Keeping Assist

Lane keeping assist accomplishes exactly what its name implies. No more straying over the lines for drivers with this technology in their car! Using a combination of cameras and radars to ‘see’ the road, vehicles equipped with this new safety feature course correct the car should it begin to cross a solid line on the road.

Rearview Camera

You’re likely familiar with this new car safety feature as it’s been on the market for the most years now. For those of us with the feature, it’s hard to imagine ever having lived without it! When a vehicle equipped with a rearview camera is put in reverse, the camera turns on and a dashboard video gives the driver a full view of everything behind him. A grid system overlaid on the screen makes backing out of tight spaces a breeze.

In fact, this new car safety feature is so useful, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is making them mandatory in vehicles starting 2018.
